Michelle McKenna, formerly of Platnum, is a Manchester-based urban dance artist most recognised for the 2008 hit “What’s It Gonna Be” with H20, and their later cover of “Love Shy.”
Originally coming together around 2004 for the local talent competition Urban Superstars, the group didn’t win but used their entry track “Over the Heartache” to make a name for themselves in the UK Bassline scene. The track gained traction, and a remix by DJ Jamie Duggan earned Bassline Heaven’s Tune of the Year Award in 2006, followed by a vinyl release by Nocturnal Records. Michelle is best known for her vocals on H “Two” O’s 2008 single, “What’s It Gonna Be,” which climbed to number two on the UK Singles Chart in February of that year. Formed around 2004, Platnum collaborated with DJs like Jamie Duggan and Q, as well as producers Virgo, H “Two” O, and Nastee Boi. Their eagerly awaited second single, “Love Shy (Thinking About You),” was released on 29 September 2008, and the group also began work on their debut album.
Now pursuing a solo career, Michelle delivers dynamic and uplifting sets that mix reimagined old-school hits with her new club anthems, including a featured track in the recent movie release Darkest Hour. In 2024, she also launched a new brand called Attitude with Eddie Craig (Wideboys) and Sweet Female Attitude, offering a series of curated shows guaranteed to ignite any event.
